Québec occupies a vast continental peninsula washed by the North Atlantic. Its territory of almost 1.7 million square kilometers is equivalent to three times the size of Spain and five times that of Japan, and its extension beyond the state's largest United States. Half of this land is covered by forest.

Ville de Quebec and its environs have 700.000 inhabitants. Cradle of the French presence in North America, the historic district of Quebec City was declared a UNESCO World Heritage in 1985, is the first urban center in North America to have received this recognition.
