trip was short but very intense because of my city to the city of Oaxaca we took 10 hours driving because we had than through a mountainous area with very steep curves and large aviaries. Round was not much of a problem because it was uphill, but half return was dangerous because the curves were down and we had the side of the gorge.
arrived safely but very tired but amazed at how beautiful and well maintained is the city. The historic center is a world heritage site by UNESCO and is a tourist corridor where you can see very old buildings and churches like Santo Domingo and many museums. People are very very warm and friendly. There are tourist information staff everywhere and care in hotels and restaurants is first class. There are also very secure and believe it or not police officers helped us get to the hotel and when I wanted to give a bonus refused to accept it! amazing, no?
The next day we went to the archaeological site of Montealbán that is set on a high mountain about 10 kms. of the capital and is simplente impressive. The nearby villages are very picturesque and there are many handicrafts and very cheap. 10 minutes south is San Bartolo Coyotepec, where people create very beautiful pieces of black mud. I could not resist buying a pair of vases to decorate the wall. And 20 minutes later is Ocotlán of Morelos, where every Friday was one of the greatest places flea markets in the country where it is still common to see the exchange.
Towards the east is Santa Maria del Tule, instead of the big old tree in Mexico. Is believed to have more than 2.000 years old, measures 42 meters long and weighs over 630 tonnes. Check out the photos to see how small we are next to the tree. Also there is a very old church in the main square selling hand-woven textiles with loom.
back to Veracruz I went through a little town called Matatlán that's where mezcal is produced and saw many agave plantations. We had to rest a night and stopped at a village called Tehuantepec, that day there was a party in the park where we saw the main show of fireworks, folk dances and other pre-Hispanic traditions, they just do not find available rooms and we had to go to a port near there called Salina Cruz, which actually has nothing interesting to do except beach that has a very high and violent waves (I estimate that measure about 3 to 4 mts.) and Martin was the icing on the cake because I had never seen the Pacific Ocean. :) We missed
thousand things to visit but it was too late. For the other we have planned to go to the archeological site of Mitla, the rocky waterfalls, to the spring, the joint villages that offer ecotourism, the orchid, the people birthplace of Benito Juarez and all the bays of Huatulco and Puerto Escondido, where do international surfing championships.
leave the best pictures, hope you like them and encourage them to visit this region muchísmo well worth all those hours off the road. Greetings!
